Saturday and today

Went from Hackney Museum on the 254 bus to Aldgate station and took the 100 to Hermitage Mooring. Done in 25 mins! This was to join the launch of Hermitage Mooring Project "A Sense of Place"
Launch was packed with 50 bods. We scoffed the lovely spread, heard the welcomes, and watched the Flotilla go by (Twas the Mayor's Thames Festival..who'd have known?)
Today swept into the Theatre Royal to introduce myself to a community led project. Went over the road to attend the tea dance. Took the 276 all around dreary Hackney Wick (that'll soon change, you see) and then the 48 from Hackney Town Hall to home and Corrie. Yeah!

tea- dance

Crazy day. As part of my journalism course I dashed across from Hackney Museum to Stratford Old Town Hall on the overground in the rain to meet up with the tea- dance organiser. Hey ho! I'd gone berserk trying to get a new memory card for my camera. No joy. Pulled out my old skool Olympus. Not a film to be had anywhere in Tesco, Asda, Turkish shops, nowhere. Finally bought from a corner shop a disposable. Just mad. Had mi digi-recorder and notebook. Hmm. The dance had been cancelled and no-one bothered to email me. Plus a load of my senior companions had made their way there. Shame on Newham. Yeah I said it.
I just wanted to know whether tea -dances do make their clients who are older people sometimes called seniors, feel part of the wider community and by implication, London 2012. Not today obviously!
Saw something so real on BBC website from a young reporter in Waltham Forest exploring the way that Waltham Forest is merely a token Olympic Borough. He is right, Waltham forest is a dead hole.
Great to get home to Corrie.

Mapping The Change

In the lead up to the Olympics and Paralympics 2012 I enrolled by application onto the journalism course at Hackney Museum entitled "Mapping The Change. which explores how the community in and around Hackney is gearing up for the Games. Hard work and tons of homework but one of the best FREE courses I've been on with a proper professional runnin tings, no less than Joy Francis of Words Of Colour. It all launches on Oct 5th at the Hackney Museum ... photographs, art, and a newspaper...."Mapping The Change" funded by Lottery Heritage Fund.
